YouTube Video Annotations
Wow, if you have logged into your YouTube account lately, you may have seen the YouTube Annotations under “What’s New”.
The annotation feature is going to create a buzz with the YouTube community.
Even though I haven’t yet used the annotations, I have read through the help. It looks like you can set annotations to any videos you upload to YouTube. Annotations can be used for things like speech, or thought, bubbles, comments about specific portions of your videos or displaying website addresses.
YouTube does mention putting links in the annotations, but it appears the only links allowed are to other YouTube videos or YouTube channels.
YouTube does state that this annotation feature is in Beta, so perhaps they’ll allow links to sites outside of YouTube in the official release.
I hope to get to testing this annotation in the next few days. I will post more after I play with the annotation feature later.
Until then, check out this card trick video below, and let me know how it worked out for you. It picked my card, freaked me out. I’m sure there’s some obvious catch, but I sure missed it. I’ll have to try again later.

Colon Cleanse, I doubt youtube will ever allow links to outside sites. What purpose would that serve for them?
Mike, when is this feature supposed to be released?

The video annotations save me a lot of time. usually i would have to manually add them through windows movie maker and it would take up to 30 minutes per single annotation. The youtube video annotation takes me around 30 seconds.

I’ve made a couple of videos using annotations, and it actually is fun to use.
So when I start up a blog, I put some content on it, then annotate like 5 youtube videos with a link back to my site. I can get some pretty steady traffic that way. You should try it.

Links out to other sites is never going to happen with YouTube - google are far too clever to let that happen! Anyway it’s a great feature! Thanks, Dan.

I observed that you can put link some days ago but I don’t see it like a good way to promote your sites. And will appear more spamers ( meaning crap description for videos, just to be there).

I think this has been used pretty poorly or overused a lot thus far. i think its a nice tool, I just hope in the long run and on the more professional channels that the novelty wears off and people use it more sparingly.

This is a very cool feature. I wouldn’t use it as I feel it hinders the beauty and flow of the video.

From a user point of view these video annotations are just irritating. Is it possible to just switch them off automatically?
